The mission of the OSU Beaver Store is to operate nonprofit university stores to benefit the students, faculty, and staff of OSU. What qualifications, experience, and/or training do you have to offer as a prospective Board member that could contribute to the success of that mission?
As a board member, I plan to use my knowledge of community engagement and development to help benefit the Oregon State Community. At home, I served as the Newberg Old Fashioned Festival Senior Queen, to help engage community members with local events. During this time, I engaged with multiple generations of my community, and got to really understand what defines a community. Between engagement, speaking at town meetings, local events, and surrounding town events, I grew my love for my town, as well as confidence in myself. I also served as Captain for my cheerleading squad, recognizing what it takes to bring a group of individuals together. Together, as one, Oregon State benefits from each student's impact, while we all make up one Nation, it is clear that each student's background is what makes the theme unique. Being able to recognize that, gives me the voice to help bring to the table new ideas to ensure that everyone feels represented and seen while shopping at The Beaver Store.
Why are you interested in serving as a Board member of a nonprofit corporation?
I have been attending this campus since I was three months old, and appreciate how welcoming a city Corvallis is. Between local festivals, shops, and people caring about the impact they leave, it is an easy choice to want to be part of it. Being a board member of this nonprofit organization allows me to build a stronger relationship with the Oregon State Community, as well as those travelling from far and wide and making sure that those visiting leave feeling that they are representing proudly and a pleasant experience shopping. The Beaver Store is the first place people attend to get the freshest and best gear to represent Oregon State, Corvallis, and their love for Beaver Nation.

I am grateful to have opportunities within the past couple of years that have guided me into powerful missions. I served on the Member Development Committee in my sorority as a first-year, in which its goal is to uphold chapter values of intellectual curiosity and scholarship. As a board member, it was vital to approach situations unbiased, with the willingness to learn and make decisions for the best of the chapter. This experience taught me that difficult conversations can create opportunities of growth and powerful action. I currently hold a position in my sorority as Vice President of External Affairs, in which my mission is to enact the highest influence for good in my chapter and beyond. I oversee a cabinet of 4 other positions in which we all work together to strengthen philanthropic, digital, and alumnae connections. Having a strong sense of values helps me assist my cabinet in creating affective change is intended to inspire others. As a Shift Lead at Jamba Juice, I had the
opportunity to excel in providing quality service that created a positive customer experience. Being able to lead by example and encourage a comfortable environment to ask questions were some of my main goals. This position taught me that effective leadership comes from the willingness to connect with others and align decisions with foundational values.

The mission of the OSU Beaver Store is to operate nonprofit university stores to benefit the students, faculty, and staff of OSU. What qualifications, experience, and/or training do you have to offer as a prospective Board member that could contribute to the success of that mission?
Throughout high school I found myself constantly looking for opportunities to lead. At 15 I became the president of my Boy Scout troop and managed 100 boys ranging from 11-17 as well as a council of 10 leadership positions. This first experience taught me a lot of lessons and pushed me to find other leadership opportunities. Fast forward to my senior year of high school and I was the president of the Skills USA club at my high school where I managed 60 club members and secured funding to send all of them to state and eventually nation competitions. Along with that position I was working 2 jobs, I was a shift lead at a pasta restaurant in town and a lead coach at a summer camp teaching kids life lessons through sports. Since I have gone to college I worked at a small law firm doing intakes for class action lawsuits and I got to learn a lot about running a business and how to properly communicate with coworkers and clients. I have recently also become the president of the Acacia frater
nity here on campus where I manage 80+ members and 12 executive officers. I meet every week with the school, executive officers, our nation organization and the chapter as a whole to discuss our operations and plans. This opportunity has given me a ton of experience when it comes to making complicated decisions and how to run an organization. I believe that that all of this experience would heavily benefit me when it came to being a board member for the OSU Beaver Store and would make me a good addition to the team.
Why are you interested in serving as a Board member of a nonprofit corporation?
Human service and giving back has always been a huge part of my life. I participated in boy scouts from ages 7-18 and discovered that I loved giving back. For my eagle scout project I worked with a nonprofit organization who served fruits and vegetables to underprivileged families in my community. After I completed this project I have consistently gone back to help with maintenance and volunteering to support their mission. I believe that my experience supporting nonprofit corporations and my leadership experience through being a leader in Boy Scouts, summer camps, and recently the president of a larger fraternity have all prepared me to serve as a board member for the Beaver store.
How does the OSU Beaver Store benefit you and your fellow students?
The biggest benefit that I personally see the Beaver Store provide to my and my fellow students daily lives is the low cost textbooks and rental options for student resources. I am a huge fan of the way the Beaver Store operates when it comes to reusing and renting out textbooks to reduce waste and costs to students. Another thing that I love about the Beaver Store's mission is the that they are 100% not for profit so the money made by the store goes directly to reducing the costs for students and providing opportunities that we otherwise might not have. All of these elements of the Beaver Store's operation are what make me so enthusiastic to apply for the position as a board member and why I would love to be a part of such a vital organization to OSU student life.
Do you have any affiliations or interests that could present a conflict of interest, or would prevent you from acting solely in the best interests of OSU Beaver Store while serving on the Board?

I work in the OSU ticket office for sporting events which allows me to learn about many customers. I often see spectators at the sporting events with bags from the Beaver Store and sometimes have the opportunity to talk with them about it. I also have referred many customers over to the Beaver Store to purchase Oregon State branded clothing and bags. Additionally, in my spare time I volunteer with Marion County Special Olympics, a non-profit organization. I am an assistant coach every season and have done this for many years now. In doing that work, I have gained many friendships with other coaches and many athletes. One of the friendships I have made is with the Marion County local program coordinator, Lisa. I work closely with Lisa and assist in any way I can. This has led me to learn a variety of things about how Special Olympics operates. I also was a job coach last summer for Garten Services, another a non-profit. In this role, my primary focus was to help someone else do their
job. Because of this, I gained a lot of knowledge on how to help teach someone something and operate solely with the purpose of bettering my participants and community.

I have experience volunteering for a nonprofit organization in high school called Every Body Athletics. Through my time volunteering with them, I learned on a smaller scale the ways nonprofit organizations are run and the sacrifices that can come with it in order to stay a nonprofit. I also experienced firsthand how much of an impact a non-profit can have on the community. Secondly, I held a job in the summer as a lead youth camp counselor. In this job, I was tasked with managing the daily activities of 15-20 elementary-aged kids. I was responsible for the actions of my supporting counselors and provided a daily status update to the program director. I developed communication skills by engaging with a broad spectrum of people. I also worked frequently with the program director to implement efficiency and structure changes.

Further, I have leadership experience as I am a member of the College of Business' Ricci Leadership Academy and have spent time working in teams to achieve a common goal: helping others. The OSU Beaver Store has always had what I was looking for, right when I needed it. It has saved me when professors don't release the required books until a day before I needed reading homework finished, and with the reasonable textbook prices, I always walk out feeling good about my purchase. In addition to the affordable textbooks and course materials, I also really like the fun and modern logo merchandise. When you walk around campus, you see many people wearing their Beaver gear, and that's a testament to the OSU Beaver Store's success and school pride. The mission of the OSU Beaver Store is to operate nonprofit university stores to benefit the students, faculty, and staff of OSU. What qualifications, experience, and/or training do you have to offer as a prospective Board member that could contribute to the success of that mission?
As a community-driven student with a background in nonprofit and retail work, I am committed to upholding the Beaver Store's mission of benefiting and serving the students, faculty, and staff of OSU as the Student Director. I have previously held a board position on the Eugene based nonprofit organization, Positive Community Kitchen, where I developed skills in teamwork, organization and decision making within a nonprofit setting. In this role I managed a team and executed a successful fundraiser, giving me insight into how nonprofits run and how to best support the families we served in a way that also reached the financial goals of the organization. Through my experience in customer service and retail, I have gained a practical knowledge of day-to-day store operations, balancing keeping customers interests in mind within a fast paced retail environment. Additionally, my involvement across campus has strengthened my commitment to serving the OSU community in meaningful ways. Through
my participation in clubs and organizations, I stay actively engaged with student life and understand the diverse needs and perspectives within our campus. My previous role, working in on-campus childcare, gave me a unique perspective on accessibility and service, something I will bring to my position on the Board. Having seen the impact of this program, providing free childcare to students, faculty, and staff, has shown me how important it is to have equitable resources available to everyone. My combination of experiences, along with my personal values, directly align with my interest in the Beaver Store's mission. I am passionate about contributing to a service that supports the same groups that I am a part of, through being able to provide the resources essential to student, faculty, and staff success.
Why are you interested in serving as a Board member of a nonprofit corporation?
I am interested in serving as a Board member for a nonprofit because I believe in the impact these organizations have in strengthening communities and supporting those they serve. I have seen and experienced firsthand how nonprofits positively impact my community and the success of others, many of whom need it most. The Beaver Store is especially compelling to me because of the intersection between nonprofit service and retail, two areas that I am interested in exploring a career within. As a double major in Pre-Apparel Design and Merchandising Management, I am intrigued by the opportunity to learn more about and further develop my skills in retail strategy, product assortment, and pricing. Serving on the Board as the Student Director would allow me to pursue my academic interests in a way that is meaningful and impactful to me and my OSU community.

However, I am fully committed to fulfilling the responsibilities of this role throughout the two year commitment, and would plan ahead to ensure continuity in my involvement. I would remain engaged remotely as needed and stay in communication to meet Board expectations. Outside of that term, I will be in Corvallis and available to consistently participate in meetings and responsibilities.
